Assessments
This page is available to help you take a introspective look at possible struggles in your life. These assessments are considered to be the most widely used screening measure to help identify the symptoms and concerns characteristic of sexual addiction/codependency. You can use the below assessments to help you determine if you need to speak to a mental health professional or physician and get help for one of these problems. It will take you about two minutes to complete each one. These assessments are not designed to make a diagnosis of one of these problems or to take the place of a professional diagnosis or consultation, so speaking to a therapist would still be the best way to assess the severity of the problem.
Sexual Addiction Screening Test
Recognizing that you may have an addiction can be scary: You want to know what to do, but at the same time, you’re afraid to learn any more about yourself. You want to talk to someone about your problem, but you’re afraid to trust anyone. The Sexual Addiction Screening Test (SAST) is designed to assist in the assessment of sexually compulsive behavior which may indicate the presence of sex addiction. Developed in cooperation with hospitals, treatment programs, private therapists, and community groups, the SAST provides a profile of responses which help to discriminate between addictive and non-addictive behavior. We strongly urge that diagnosis and treatment be done with a trained professional. This assessment is designed to help you decide whether you should seek further help. Pornography Addiction Screening Tool (PAST)
The Pornography Addiction Screening Tool (PAST) is a free on-line initial screening assessment tool for individuals with potential addiction to pornography. It is being developed with clients in outpatient settings around the United States. The PAST provides a profile based on the responses that help to identify individuals who are addicted to pornography. The responses are chosen by the client who is being screened for potential addiction to pornography. To complete the test, the client answers each of the 25 questions by choosing from one of the possible responses.
Partner Sexuality Survey
Anyone who has been involved in a relationship with a sex addict is eligible to take this survey, including males, females, heterosexual or homosexual partners, and those that are still involved in a relationship with the addict, and those that have left the relationship. This survey is part of a research study being conducted by Dr. Stefanie Carnes. The purpose of the study is to learn about how sexual addiction impacts the sexuality of the partner of the sex addict, with the long term goal of helping partners and couples recover. There are several benefits you may experience as a result of your participation in this study. The first benefit is knowing you are advancing research in the field of sex addiction. The second is that you may experience some insights about how your sexuality has been impacted by the addiction. And finally, at the end of the survey, you will receive a brief report, free of charge, that outlines areas of your sexuality that may have been impacted by the addiction. The only risk associated with taking this survey is that it may bring up some emotions relating to your experience in this relationship. If this should occur, please seek the guidance of a qualified therapist. If you are interested in taking this assessment, please click here to take the Partner Sexuality Survey.
